TIP: Subscribing to Google Reader

I created a IE Search Provider to submit a feed through the IE search
box and preview the feed in Google Reader, where I get a subscribe button that works much
better. To do this, follow the steps below and let me know what you think:
From IE, drop down the magnifying glass and select "Find More Providers". On the right side where it says Create Your Own, paste the URL as
"http://www.google.com/reader/preview/*/feed/TEST" and name it Google Reader. For Security Reasons (hehe) make sure you click the Install button.Now you are done. When you find a feed you want to subscribe to, paste it in the IE Search box
and select the provider as Google Reader. Once Google Reader loads, click the Subscribe button
in the upper right-hand corner and you are done.

another way. Here's how I did it.
1. Create a blank htm file on your hard drive using Notepad.2. Add the htm file as a book mark in IE73. Copy and Paste the below script as the URL of the bookmark.
You can even set a shortcut key to fire it off if you want.

The script is from a Google Reader tip that only works in Firefox. They provide a shortcut to
drag to the bookmark bar which won't work in IE7 so I did it in FF and then copied the script

Mobipocket Rocks

Eventhough as a fluke, I managed to install the Windows version of the Mobipocket Reader software today in my pc. And found out a few cool things.

This stuff actually converts PDF and CHM files into PRC!!!.... WITH IMAGE SUPPORT. Not even Repligo did that...Not to say regulars like Office Documents, HTML, TXT etc. Also OCF Files, dunno whats that about, but thats not the cool thing.

Once its converted, the file size reduces upto ONE FOURTH!!!!!! Yes its true. More shocking is how cool and neat it is to read in PC. Sooo strainless to the eye with cleartype and all..

And all this can be transferred to Mobile too.. Less space, easy to read in mobireader, and images too..WOW THATS AMAZING!!!

I am actually having half a mind to convert ALL my PDF files to PRC format!!!

Also planning to experiment to see how the scanned PDFs turn up, like the Kaplan ones..

How to cut Hair

I discovered what best looks on my head.

Do not cut frontal hair any short than a finger length. Looks ugly.

Heres the trick.

Ask them to use clipper on TWO (2) on the back and sides. Yes, all over the back. And from sideburns up too. Do not touch the top turban area. Leave it as such or atleast as a 7 minimum.

Frontal hair I need maximum. And back hair I shud have the least.

Distance between major Indian cities

I was trying the distance between thrissur and mumbai, and it seems it is 1356 Kms. Found if using http://www.luxurytoursofindia.com/distance-calculator.html which uses mapsofindia.com. This info was needed to find the STD charges to Mumbai

Jaxtr workaround

I think the following trial can be used to place FREE or lowcost calls from my home in India to my home number in usa.
1.Using freedigits.com, register multiple virtual phone numbers, all freely forwarded to my home no.
2.Register multiple jaxtr accounts, each using a virtual number from step one, and activate each number.
3.To each of these jaxtr accounts, place a call to my virtual numbers, first time for free and next time using the std number obtained.
4.Trick is not tested yet, has to update this post after a trial and error done.

Bookmarks Bookmarks

Should I say DARN...... Or should I not?  The much touted Opera desktop browser latest edition seems to have a problem in managing its bookmarks.  And as a result I am having difficulty in managing and arranging it into beautiful folders, rather than the list being run into a VERY VERY long ddrop down  list.

Looks like I will have to post each and every bookmark link into my blog as well, just like I started doing for Opera Mini.  Universally Accessible...DING!!

New Phone Number

As usual, I was tinkering with some voip sites yester evening, and finally ended the day procuring a new incoming phone number for free. They said it could be forwarded to any number inside the country for free. Tried that thing today morning after I input my cellphone number in the config page. And sure enough, my cellphone rang after I dialled that other number using my landline. More and more to come I guess, as freebies are on the rise.

Baby steps again

Ok, after recapturing the blog, this is an attempt to send a post from the cell using a webmail client. Go blogger is not very good and this seems to be a better alternative. Lets see if this gets posted properly.

Back Again

Phew..

After a few months of inactivity, I can finally reclaim my blog post again.  These people here had associated this with google, and everything is a mess now.  Page still takes ages to load.  Now to see if I can do this with my vox client.

Dangerous flaw found

In the earlier post, I bellowed about how convenient it will be to have a common syncd bookmark tool service. Caution. It can be a dangerous tool in itself. Most of the time we rate our bookmarks with our login and password data included so as to enable easy access next time. This data stored in the bookmark file is being sent to the foxmark server for easy availability to anyone who took a look. Why take the risk? Keep your private data close to yourself, inside your computers safety. May God bless me.

Arrange all the bookmarks neatly and in context oriented folders like
main,media,streaming,books,xfun,linkbar,tech, pocketpc etc and any
other that may seem appropriate. Then keep them neatly organised and
up to date. This function can be easily done by foxmarks. This
homepage can be accessed online for faster and easier access for
favourite webpages and the beauty is that this can be accessed by the
mobile browser as well, thus taking away the need to keep long lists
of bookmarks in the opera mini. And by synchronising this from any
firefox pc this functionality is accessible from anywhere as well. May

Found new way

Over these past few weeks, I was kind of wondering how to generate money while doing my residency. The stipend indeed is there, but that was not the point. Being here in America should have been better. How to make some extra cash as a steady income to be traded into the markets or put into other investment vehicles. That was the thought process.

And it seems over the past day an idea seem to have presented itself to me. How true is the say that if you are on the lookout, the avenues of opportunity will show themselves to you!.. It seems this guy doing a phd in a us university is doing this exact same thing. Reselling electronic goods in India gets a profit of anywhere from three to five thousand rupees for this guy. Not bad at all, huh? If I know just a few basic rules,so that I wont be doing anything against the law, it looks like I can make this kind of money per sale. All from within the confines of the house without spending time in any office setup. Should actively look into this,so as to make a minimum of extra three thousand dollars per month. I found a new way to do business today. This camera canon a530 cost 150 bucks here in usa. A discount of 15bucks might be available. This guy, lists it in Indian ebay, where a standard price is anywhere from 10 to 11 thousand indian rupees. This guy is putting a rate around 5 to 6 thousand, with a shipping cost of approx 2 to 3 thousand. The buyer still gets it cheap compared to the Indian price. Because it is said that the item ships from usa, this much shipping cost is ok for the buyers. The guy must be making a clean profit of anywhere from 3 to 4 thousand rupees per sale. All staying within the confines of his house. Should be looked into. May God bless me.
